I was raised by a woman who is always dressed to the nines. She still gets dressed up to go to the market and never leaves the house without intention. She’s stylish, current, and unapologetic about it — and honestly, she looks fantastic.
These days, especially on the West Coast, fashion has become far more casual. Almost anything goes. Yet not long ago, I overheard a woman quietly criticizing another woman her age for wearing something “too trendy,” something she believed only a younger woman should wear.
Meanwhile, I was thinking the exact opposite — she looked confident, modern, and completely at ease in her own skin.
So it raises the question: does dressing for your age still exist?
For years, we’ve been told what to wear — and what not to wear — based on numbers. Fashion magazines have long published rules like “What to Wear in Your 40s” or “What You Should Stop Wearing After 50.” We were warned not to wear white after Labor Day. Told our shoes, bags, and belts had to match. In short, we were handed a rulebook that didn’t leave much room for individuality.
But here’s the thing: being “appropriately dressed” has nothing to do with age. It has everything to do with how you feel in what you’re wearing.
As people take better care of themselves and live fuller, longer lives, the idea of what a woman “should” look like at any given age has completely changed. Women in their 50s, 60s, and beyond are redefining style every day. Just look at the incredible women on Instagram — from accidental icons to women over 50 who are proving that confidence and style don’t expire.
When it comes to fashion, dressing well is about understanding your body, your lifestyle, and what makes you feel beautiful. It’s far more important to wear what flatters you and reflects who you are than to worry about whether something is “age appropriate.” It’s just as unrealistic to say a 70-year-old woman shouldn’t care about trends as it is to assume a 25-year-old doesn’t need to think about context or fit.
Dressing for your age is a concept of the past. Dressing for what feels good on you is timeless.
That idea of timelessness is something I feel deeply connected to. Trends come and go and it’s fun to play with them but the pieces that truly earn a place in your wardrobe are the ones that are versatile, expressive, and uniquely yours.
That’s exactly where the LuLuWrap comes in. Designed as wearable art, it offers something for every age, every body type, and every moment of life. It’s a piece you can wear again and again, styled in different ways, always feeling fresh, confident, and completely yourself.
Because style isn’t about age.
It’s about expression.
